American Idol 7 - Finale Results

After hundreds of thousands of auditions… a few shocking, disgusting eliminations… some embarrassing wardrobe choices… and another two hours of filler… we have a new American Idol.

Tonight’s finale was actually quite good, overall- even despite the fact that we’re pretty sure all of the “big stars” featured on the show were picked up in a van from the nearest nursing home. Well, all of them except the Jonas Brothers of course, who got to sign out of elementary school a few hours early today to practice.

American Idol 7 - Finale

First of all, this boxing theme has got to go. Talk about cheesy!

The first round tonight is songs chosen by Clive Davis. Goody. Hasn’t he either retired or died yet?

Clive Davis’s choice for David Cook is “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For.” We love this performance from the very first note. It’s an old song, but as always, David makes it his own and blows us away. Our rating: 10/10

For David Archuleta, Clive has chosen the incredibly predictable “Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me.” We fall asleep practically before the song has even begun. David performs it well, but it’s such a boring, overdone song. We’re not hugely impressed. Our rating: 8/10

The songs for round two are the ones that won the songwriters’ competition. We groan in not-eager anticipation. These songs are always cheesy and gag-inducing.

American Idol 7 - Top 3 Results

This is it- the final elimination before the finale. While we know what SHOULD happen, one can never really guess with this show.

The show begins with a group performance of “Ain’t No Stoppin’ Us Now.” Like we said last week, the group performances this season make us long for last season, when there were no group performances to speak of. They’re so bad this year. Thankfully, the Ford video kind of makes up for it this week. At the very least, it’s more original than they usually are.

Recap time. We’re bored.

Fantasia’s performance makes us wonder how on God’s green earth she managed to walk away from season 3 of Idol as the winner. And then there’s the matter of her hair- WHAT? The screaming is horrible, too. We just don’t like this performance at all.

American Idol 7 - Top 3

First round tonight is the judges’ choice. For David Archuleta, Paula has chosen “And So It Goes.” He starts the song a cappella, and we’re not sure how we feel about this. Bo Bice performed an entire song in season 4 and blew everyone away, and this does not measure up. David’s vocals are good, but the song is incredibly boring. Our rating: 7/10

Randy has chosen Syesha’s first song: “If I Ain’t Got You.” She performed this song on another show a few years ago, so this should be good… but note that the key word is SHOULD. It’s so boring we don’t even remember it by the end of it. Our rating: 6/10

A New AI Video Will Hit Stores Tuesday, May 13th

Idolpsot has received an exclusive advance copy of American Idol: Season 6 Finale Performance Show- The Top 2. (a 2 disc set)

The first disc includes the entire Season 6 finale performance show, including 3 songs each from Jordin and Blake as well as a special performance by Chris Daughtry. I had forgotten what a good show it was.

The 2nd DVD contains a lot of never before seen material, including the AI journeys of both Jordin Sparks and Blake Lewis. There is also a section with advice from the Top 12, the judges, and the producers on “How to Audition for American Idol” that has some pretty good tips, and there is a set of never before seen Season 6 bloopers. I have a feeling these will soon be showing up on a number of fan sites.

The two DVD set will be available in stores this Tuesday, May 13th from KOCH Vision for $19.99. It’s well worth the investment!!!

Let’s see, if this one sells well can Seasons 1 thru 5 be far behind?

American Idol 7 - Top 4 Results

While watching tonight’s top 4 performance, we’re hit with the revelation that even though we missed the weekly group performances last year, we could really do without them this year. They’re always cheesy choreography and even cheesier songs. This one is no different.

After the boring recap of last night’s episode, David Archuleta is called to the stage. Not surprisingly, he’s safe.

Now it’s time to watch some footage of the top 4’s trip to Las Vegas for the Beatles’ Love show last weekend. The dolphin thing is cute, but the rest sounds like a great time for a potty break.

American Idol 7 - Top 4

It’s really getting down to the wire now- only two more weeks left of the competition. Thankfully there’s a good theme tonight- Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

David Cook opens the show with “Hungry Like The Wolf.” We immediately notice that he could use a bit more energy, but the vocals are good. Because it’s lacking his usual spark, we’re not sure it’ll be a big standout for the night, but it’s definitely worth voting for. Our rating: 8/10

Next is Syesha Mercado, performing the incredibly overdone “Proud Mary.” The song starts off being unbearably boring, and then when she does finally decide to speed it up, it’s unbearably awkward. The dancing is not good, the vocals are only okay, and overall we’re not at all impressed. Our rating: 6/10
