American Idol 8 - Finale
Hard to believe it’s already finale week, but here we are. Tomorrow night, we’ll find out whether Adam Lambert or Kris Allen is our new American Idol.
Last week, Kris won the coin toss, and he chose to go second. That means Adam kicks off the show tonight. There are three rounds this week- the contestants’ favorite song of the season, a choice by Simon Fuller, and the evil coronation song cowritten by Kara DioGuardi.
The first round is the contestants’ favorite from the season, and Adam chooses to perform “Mad World” again. We’re excited, since this was one of his biggest standouts of the season. The best part about this is that he performs it differently- he doesn’t just repeat the same exact performance, and that’s a very good thing. And besides that, he sounds great. Our rating: 10/10
Kris sings “Ain’t No Sunshine” for the first round. We’re happy again, because we were really hoping he’d go with this song. He sounds amazing, and the competition is definitely on so far! Our rating: 10/10
Next round is Simon Fuller’s choice. For Adam, he’s picked “A Change Is Gonna Come” and we nearly fall out of our chairs with excitement. We love Adam singing this song! And he certainly doesn’t disappoint. What a great night so far! Our rating: 10/10
Simon Fuller chooses “What’s Goin’ On” for Kris. Blah. We hate, hate, HATE this song. It’s so boring. Kris sounds good, and his connection with the audience gets stronger every week, but it’s just such a dull song that we can’t really get into it. Our rating: 8/10
The last round is where the contestants are forced to sing the poopy coronation song. It’s the same thing every year, happiness and rainbows.
Adam goes first with this year’s cheesefest, “No Boundaries.” He sounds great, but the song is the same winner’s song we hear every year. Points for being an amazing performance though. Our rating: 9/10
Ending the night, Kris takes his stab at “No Boundaries.” Yup, still a crappy song. And is it just us, or does it seem as though he’s run out of steam? Or maybe his nerves are getting the best of him, but this is just not a great performance. He sounds quite shaky throughout, and off key a few times. Not a good way to end the season. Our rating: 7/10
Tomorrow night, a two-hour-plus finale, and our winner is announced!
